AUGUST/SEPTEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
This Month our athlete of the month is the hard working Kris Munroe
How long have you been at this CrossFit business?
Started at the barn in Carnation in September of 2012. It’s scary to think back to when I started I remember being very intimidated by all the weight everyone was lifting. I felt the weakest person around and I was. I could barely lift the bar. I think I felt physically sick after every workout for the first 2 months. I can never stop now because I never want to go back to that feeling.
How have you developed into a such ninja?
I started just going two days a week for about 2 years and I progressed very slowly. The most improvement I have seen has been since I started at CrossFit Big Rock and then jumped it up to going 4-5 times a week. It really makes a huge difference the more time you put in the more you get out of it.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Chelan
What is your least favorite move to see on the board?
It used to be almost everything but really the only thing that I hate to see now is thrusters at 95. (Better work on that this year) Fran brings back those good old sick feelings I used to have.
What is your most favorite?
TTB
What fellow Big Rockers have to say:
“Kris has the most focus and persistence to get through any kind of a WOD of anyone I know and comes out smiling every time.”
“He never gives up!”
“Athlete of the month? Kris of course.”
“Great motivation, working out next to Kris.”
JULY ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
July’s Athlete of the Month is Mr. Greg Dianich
Question time…
How long have you been at this crazy business of CrossFit?
Started CrossFit about 5 years ago.
We have seen the numbers you put up. Wow! What keeps you going strong?
For me CrossFit is a fun family of friends who encourage strength.
What did you do prior to your life as Super Dad?
I used to be a commercial photographer then a contractor and now a stay at home, yarn shop owning, sheep farming dad who a few times a week likes to lift heavy sh!t!
Any advice for newcomers?
Listen to your body because if you’re injured working out sucks!
Giddyup!
Here is what fellow Big Rockers have said about Greg:
“One of the nicest guys you will meet”.
“He works so hard, his sweat sweats”.
“Seriously, strong”.
“Any man that brings his own cry towel is not someone I want to #*%^ with”.
“Always works hard, always challenging himself, always thinking of everyone else, and always by the front door. Love working out with him”.
JUNE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Our voted Athlete of the Month for June is ANDREW MCKENZIE
Get to know Andrew a little bit better:
How long have you been CrossFitting?
I was what I guess you’d call an ‘observer’ pre-2014.
I started Sweat workouts in February, 2014. I did that until about December and then started hitting regular CrossFit workouts.
In October, 2015 Corey bought me a t-shirt that says ‘I drank the Kool-aid’. I’m hooked now, so I guess she was right!
What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
I like the Saturday morning team workouts. I love the community and support…..and the occasional opportunity to sneak a nap and/or donut in after an especially hard WOD.
On the flip side, what do you dread seeing on the whiteboard?
I’m in for a particularly rough ride with any WOD that includes thrusters, OHS, HSPU, or a rep count >30.
What advice to you have for someone just starting CrossFit?
1) Have patience, it’s a process 2) Scale! & Pace? 3) Keep learning & trying new things 4) Establish a baseline, celebrate your wins 5) Embrace all our great coaches have to offer and the community we continue to build here
What do you do for fun in your real life?
I love to spend time with my 4 girls and watch all their activities.
I like playing soccer, and pretty much anything outdoors- especially hiking in the Cascades.
What is the best vacation you have ever taken?
I look forward to our annual Sunriver, Oregon trip every year!
Some quotes from your Big Rock Family:
“Andrew always encourages those around him. He’s a great motivator. Even in the middle of a workout he’s continually cheering and pushing you to keep going and not give up.”
“He is ready for a competition with a big smile and then cheers you to finish, after he kicked your ass!”
“Andrew is one of the hardest working guys I know. If he can’t do something he works at it until he can. It’s so awesome to see someone improve so much so fast.”
“He has no quit in him.”
