NOVEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

November Athlete of the Month – Michael Doran
untitled

Michael has been amazing us since the beginning. He has a strong work ethic and always comes in with a smile. Michael puts in a lot of effort on a very regular basis. His consistency and dedication pay off. You will often see a “PR” next to his lifts and fast WOD times! And he does this all with great attention to performing movements correctly. Speaking of movements… he’s worked hard over the years and is always improving and learning something new.
Can’t wait to see what he masters next!

You are a dedicated athlete. What keeps you motivated to keep at it?
CrossFit has helped me feel the healthiest and strongest I’ve ever been. I feel pride in my body’s ability and consistent training is what supports that. It is also great to be able to eat burgers with impunity.

What’s your favorite CrossFit move?
I really enjoy overhead squats. They are a difficult movement that requires a particular blend of strength, balance, and flexibility.

What’s your least favorite move?
I prefer not to ride the Assault Air Bike, when possible.

Outside of CrossFit, do you have a favorite hobby?
I am a professional cello, violin, and viola maker. My work is my passion and CrossFit gets me to clock out. For a vacation from work, I once made a mandolin for myself.

Would you share something we may not know about you?
I’m a good cook, I love restoring old woodworking machines, and I can make fire without matches or a lighter.

OCTOBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Robin Johnson is our Athlete of the Month for October.

This is no surprise to anyone, this girl deserves some recognition!

Robin has been faithfully attending our 5:30am classes since the new year. She walks in every morning with a huge smile on her face, the most positive attitude you could ask for (at 5:30 in the morning), and such a go-get-it attitude. She is super welcoming to anyone who walks through our doors. She is always cheering on and motivating her fellow early-risers during and post workouts. Partnering with Robin in a workout is the best, you couldn’t ask for a more supportive partner.

Each WOD Robin tackles head-on. She doesn’t cherry pick, she doesn’t hit the snooze button in the morning to avoid her less than favorite movements or lifts.
What she does do, is get after it! The changes and improvements this woman has made is amazing! And she continues to amaze us coaches and the Big Rock members around her.
She is always looking to improve, go a little faster, lift a little heavier. And yes Robin, with your growing strength and determination,  your day will come when you get those pull ups mastered!

Robin’s CrossFit journey…

What do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my family, working on any of the numerous projects around our home, baking, fishing, and the occasional girl’s night out.

When did you start at CrossFit Big Rock?
After much convincing by my husband, who insisted I would love CrossFit, my first day at the box was the 0530 class on January 12, 2016.

What is the biggest change you have noticed since coming?
Beside the inches lost, and the muscle gained?  The next best thing, I am a much happier person.

Do you have a short term goal for your CrossFit self?
To nail pull-ups!

If you could make up your own workout, what would it be?
This is a tough one but I’d definitely pick rowing and bench press as the components.

CFBR has been an important addition to my life.  I look forward to the classes, regardless of the WOD, because I know the coaches and members are there as support. Thank you CFBR coaches, members, and my husband for being right.

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

This Month our athlete of the month is the hard working Kris Munroe

FullSizeRender (76)

How long have you been at this CrossFit business?
Started at the barn in Carnation in September of 2012.  It’s scary to think back to when I started I remember being very intimidated by all the weight everyone was lifting.  I felt the weakest person around and I was. I could barely lift the bar.  I think I felt physically sick after every workout for the first 2 months.  I can never stop now because I never want to go back to that feeling.

How have you developed into a such ninja?
I started just going two days a week for about 2 years and I progressed very slowly.  The most improvement I have seen has been since I started at CrossFit Big Rock and then jumped it up to going 4-5 times a week.  It really makes a huge difference the more time you put in the more you get out of it.

Where is your favorite place to travel?
Chelan

What is your least favorite move to see on the board?
It used to be almost everything but really the only thing that I hate to see now is thrusters at 95. (Better work on that this year)  Fran brings back those good old sick feelings I used to have.

What is your most favorite?
TTB

What fellow Big Rockers have to say:
“Kris has the most focus and persistence to get through any kind of a WOD of anyone I know and comes out smiling every time.”
“He never gives up!”
“Athlete of the month? Kris of course.”
“Great motivation, working out next to Kris.”
